How the volcanic eruption is affecting our stargazing tours
Due to volcanic activity in the Cumbre Vieja area, stargazing tours with telescopes are temporarily unavailable. The usual observation locations — astronomical viewpoint Llano del Jable and Llano de La Venta — are within exclusion zones and inaccessible.
Why not use other island locations?
Optimal astronomical observation sites must meet specific criteria:
- Absence of light pollution from artificial sources
- Open spaces with substantial observable sky
- Good visibility conditions away from coastal moisture
- Accessible by vehicle for equipment transport
- High probability of clear skies year-round
- No volcanic ash fall risk
- Good air quality unaffected by volcanic gas emissions
Why not use Roque de Los Muchachos?
It is not allowed to access by car and/or carry out night observation activities at the Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory, in order to avoid interfering with professional astronomical work.
We will resume our tours as soon as conditions permit, and will keep you updated regularly.
